Hello one and all,
I am desperately trying to find a copy of the clarinet concerto no. 11 by Carl Stamitz. I believe it is in E flat major, which is proving difficult because Carl Stamitz wrote a few in Eflat. If there is anybody that knows the publisher or where I can purchase a copy that would be greatly appreciated. I was reading an early post that said it could potentially be Schirmer publishing? Can anyone confirm?

Thanks so much,
Adrianna

Call or e-mail Gary Van Cott. He probably has info on it.

Things get confusing with the Stamitz concerti because there is more than one numbering system in effect. Schirmer has indeed published an Eb clarinet concerto by Karl Stamitz (edited by Christmann) and the preface states,"In Helmut Boese's authoritative dissertation... this concerto is listed as the eleventh." In an earlier thread, GBK notes that Boese's numbering system appears to be the most widely accepted today. Yet on CDs recorded by Sabine Meyer (EMI), Eduard Brenner (Tudor), Karl Schlechta (Arte Nova) and Kalman Berkes (Naxos), the concerto identified as No. 11 is not the concerto in the Schirmer edition. The only recording I have of the Schirmer Stamitz (Christman) Eb Concerto is by Brunner and it is identified as No. 5. So, if you heard the No. 11 you are looking for on one of the recordings, the Schirmer is not the one you want.
Gary Van Cott has indeed looked beneath the covers of the various Stamitz concertos he sells. Per his descriptions, if you want the concerto identified as No. 11 on the recordings I listed above, you want the one edited by Johannes Wojciechowski and published by Sikorski.
Best regards,
jnk

I tried looking for this piece after hearing Hans-Rudolf Stalder's recording of it (he simply called it "Concerto in Eb" on his recording) and discovered (after having my local music store order it) that the Schirmer-published concerto is a different one. The Schirmer publication is still a good piece, but it's not the same one you're looking for (the one with the prominent "horn calls" in the final movement).
There are MIDI files of the Schirmer piece on the Clarinet Institute of L.A. website, incidentally.

The Kalman Berkes (Naxos) recording indeed corresponds to the Wojciechowski/Sikorski edition of "Stamity 11" (have checked with my copy). You can find out whether or not this is the piece you are looking for on youtube: the Berkes recording is available there, too.
Best regards

Thanks for everyones help. I have ordered from Van Cott what looks to be the correct concerto. It is the Wojciechowski edition.
