I just opened my first box of V12 Eb reeds in 3 1\2. I had been using blue box 3 1\2's before that. (I use a vandoren B44).
I found them to be:
1) Hard, airy
2) Thin (sounding)
3) Unresponsive, more so higher in range
4) the tip shape was the same as blue box (rather than being more square like V12 Bb reeds)
I used the ATG system on a few of them, hoping to increase response and lighten them up a bit, with a 100% failure rate (did a very very limited amount of work too).
Is the reed strength comparison different for Eb reeds? Anyone else tried V12 Eb reeds?

I also tried them as well, and got the same exact results you did. I did not like them, and I still like Bb reeds chopped down, or in my case used on my Backun Eb barrel. No go for me on the V12 Eefers reeds.

I just tried some- after I took a little wood off the sides, from the tip to about 1/3 of the way up the vamp, they played well. I'm not sure I like them quite as much as the regular Vandoren Eb reeds, though.
