I have a nice wooden clarinet marked on each section 'Rene Lamott Paris'. Does anyone know of this maker? I have only seen one other advertised recently, on eBay from the USA and claimed to be a 1920s instrument.

my sources only state that this is a "modern" woodwind instrment maker, i.e. mid C20 or so...the sole US agent was Jack Spratt Woodwind Co of Greenwich CT(many persons on this board will probably remember Jack Spratt) the company is still in existence and might possibly have some info....though there are only one or two employees these days apparently. The best bet is to try the reference section of your local library and see if they have access to the New Langwill Index which is about the best source for this kind of information. At least your horn doesn't appear to be a Malerne stencil.....

Thanks Chris. I'll pursue those leads. By the way, the Lamott plays like a dream.

If you do find out something more about your clarinet, please post again that way it'll be available in the archive for next time somebody asks. And I'd like to know too, anyway. Thanks
