 barrel question

I found a wooden bundy clarinet for sale, and I was thinking of getting it. But, it has a wooden body and a resin barrel. Would that make a difference when playing it?

The most important factors for the barrel are that the bore be a match (mostly) and that the length gives you the pitch "area" that you need when you play it. Many folks (professionals and amateurs alike) use resin barrels because they tend not to crack, and usually warm up faster (bring you to the pitch of a warm clarinet).



Should be just fine.

I donĀ“t think, that a resin barrel will warm up the air column quicklier then a wooden one.

Well let's think about this. The air column starts out at 98.6 or so degrees fahrenheit coming out of our lungs. What cools it down is the surrounding air and material. If the material a better conductor (of heat that is), then the existing air column will not DIP in amount as long.

Thermal conductivity of wood is generally lower than the thermal conductivity of plastics, though denser grenadillla would be quite close.
The difference in warming up and tone stability between wood and plastic is likely to moisture absorption and retention (virtually none for plastics and quite a bit for wood).
There were barrels made with hard rubber lining (e.g. Selmer 10G) and metal lining - and they did not become a preferred choice.
As long as wooden clarinets are still preferred, wooden barrels would naturally come with them.

P.S. For the Bundy clarinet, a plastic barrel would make a simple good choice.
