Would be so happy to fine a place to purchase Eb Contra Bass Clarinet Reeds. My 8th grade child will be continuing this instrument through High School and College so we will have a continual need for this product. We are not having any trouble getting regular Bass Clarinet Reeds just the Eb Contra Bass Clarinet Reed. Anyone with assistance to this matter please E-mail me at amoore8@flash.net
Many Thanks, Angie Moore

Angie -
Baritone sax reeds work fine. You may have to trim off a little at the butt end to fit on the mouthpiece.
The contrabass clarinet reeds made by Vandoren are for a BBb contra and will not fit on at least the Selmer Eb contra mouthpiece.
All of the mail order places listed here on Sneezy under "Resources" will have Eb contra reeds.
I have posted a couple of longer items on this list in the "Contra Bass Clarinet" thread. I think your daughter would be interested in reading the entire thread.
Best regards.

I play the Eb contralto (contra bass, whatever) in ninth grade band, so I am probably the best person to talk to (age wise). Ha ha ha! Bari sax reeds do NOT work for me. I have to have contra alto reeds. Bari sax reeds slip arounds a lot. You should ask your music store about them. Make sure you specify contra bass, or they will give you bass clarinet reeds. Don't be picky about brands, I've only seen Rico.
Good luck buying the reeds (they are somewhat expensive. If she can stand the Bari reeds, they are much less expensive.) And good luck to your child, it's hard work, but it pays off. (I was put into the highest band, I am already getting offers for scholarships.)

I play a Leblanc Eb contra-alto clarinet and buy my reeds from Woodwind and Brasswind. I have used Rico, Vandoren, and Marca reeds. My preference is Vandoren.
