 Selecting a Buffet R-13 in 2009
Author: JamesOrlandoGarcia

I am starting the process of looking for a replacement R-13. Back when I purchased my current horn in 2002 the common practice was to go to International Musical Suppliers since they had a really fine selection of clarinets or the go to the Woodwind and Brasswind and to make the best possible choice out of the fifty or so inconsistent R-13s due to poor adjustment and selection.

Times have changed. International Musical Suppliers is a skeleton of what it used to be since it changed ownership and the Woodwind and Brasswind has moved most of their stock to a warehouse in Kansas City.

I needed the highest quality R-13 I can possibly find. To the professionals and highly skilled enthusiasts in the United States I ask for advice. Where do you think I should go to find a professional grade R-13 in 2009?

Prowinds in Bloomington IN

Brannen Winds in Chicago

Frederic Weiner - Long Island NY

Muncy Winds - South Boone N.C.

Of course you probably should try a Yamaha SEV or CSG first!!!!

I also was a "regular" at the old IMS store in DesPlaines and miss it. And, as a satisfied customer (three pro instruments plus other accessories), if I were in the market to buy anything "Buffet", I would definately go to Lisa's Clarinet Shoppe before any of the other sources listed above. As you may already know, she is an excellant clarinetist and makes regular trips to Jacksonville (Buffet HQ's) to pick out only the best clarinets for customers to audition at her store. You simply get to try out the best of the best before you buy.

Everyone should check her website out as there is much more than just clarinets for sale.
