Has anybody tried german clarinet mouthpieces from vandoren or any other manufacturers? How are they compared to the french mouthpieces?

I don't know about the mouthpieces, but I know the German cut reeds are smaller. A friend of mine uses the German reeds on his Eb after cutting the ends of them off.

I am using a Vanodren VD3 and can recommend it. It has a shorter facing and medium opening. Good sound in my oppinion. Cannot compare with french mouthpieces though.
But do not trust on me too much and try yourself.

I use a german facing with german reeds both for my german clarinet and my Buffet. German facings are generally longer and closer than usual Boehm facings. The reeds are "smaller" and have a different cut. If I compare the sound, I have the feeling of following difference: more compact and covered,
darker, larger sound than a standard Boehm facing. I use the facing G3 of Mr. Viotto on both
German and French mp and use Vandoren White Master. The mps are very high quality and used in Germany by a lot of professionals. For
boehm you can get this facing at: http://www.olivacr.com/
