Mouthpiece recommendations for B&H Regent II?

I have an old Boosey and Hawkes Regent II clarinet that I recently dusted off after a good few years of neglect. It's a plastic beginners instrument that I've owned for nearly 30 years, but has a fairly nice tone.

It could do with a new mouthpiece. Would I encounter any compatibility problems if I were to buy a Vandoren piece for it?

The Regent II was the forerunner of the B12 so you should have no problems using VanDoren mouthpiece

Try a Vandoren 5RV Lyre and see how you get on with that.

Cheers for that... I've ordered the 5RV lyre and a Vandoren leather ligature/cap set (from Howarths). I'll report back once I've tried them out.

I came home yesterday to find a delivery slip, and picked up the mouthpiece this morning... and I've just tried it out.

First impressions were that there was little difference... the tone was pretty much the same as I sound on any clarinet... until I tried playing some altissimo notes. Wow! I'm amazed. They're so easy. What a difference! Dynamics seem a lot easier to control as well...

I wish I'd bought one of these 20 years ago.

I'm glad you like it, and I thought you'd probably find the top notes much easier to play and control with this. They also tend to play slightly on the sharp side which is always a good thing as it's easier to flatten things than to sharpen things on clarinet.

A few years back I let a bandmember who was struggling with her B45 try out my 5RV Lyre, and she was over the moon with how easy it was in comparison, especially in the altissimo register.

She then bought it off me as I wasn't using it at the time (I went back to playing my A1 crystal) and she's still playing on it now.
