I have located a Selmer Series 9 Bass clarinet!! I think it is overpriced for the condition it is in, but I've been having such a hard time locating one of these, that I'd enjoy hearing more from others as to what a fair price might be. I haven't seen the horn, but it is purported to be free of cracks, dents and tenon damage, and supposedly playable. It is very tarnished, and the case has tape all around the edges, probably meaning that the covering is coming off. The asking price is $2,400. I think it ought to sell for $2,000-2,100 as is, or $2,600-2,900 fully restored with a new case or re-upholstered and lined case. Perhaps I need recalibrating. Please let me know.

I think you are on target with the lower value given that the keywork needs refinishing. If it just needed pads & corks then I would be willing to pay more.
Overhaul estimates are in the range of $1000 depending on how much replating and polishing it may need. It may even be more on that horn since it think it has dual octave key & range to low C so that makes the work a little more complicated.
To compare, if you got a new Model 37 from WWBW it would be around $5k. So, $2400 plus the overhaul, case, mouthpiece ... and you are approaching $4000 instead of $3500.

Oooo the old classic Selmer Series 9... (this is kind of off topic)... when I was in high school I played on a Rosewood Selmer Series 9 Contra-Alto Clarinet... I loved that thing.... okay now on topic... I think probobly $2000 is a more fairer price for it.
