I played clarinet as a hobby about 15 years ago and haven't touched it since. I'd like to pick it back up, but since the one I used before was borrowed (I know nothing about it), all I know is I want to get a decent instrument. Since, again, it's just a hobby, I don't want to pay much, so I'm looking at an online pawn shop (if I can get a decent quality one cheap enough I don't mind taking it locally to be brushed up for a couple three hundred)- but they obviously don't know much about it. So little, in fact, that in one part of the ad it says it's "plastic", but in another it says wood with leather pads. It clearly says nothing but Selmer Soloist in a couple of places... when I search I see where Selmer Signet Soloist clarinets are good intermediate level instruments. Is there a difference? Or rather, what is the difference between Selmer Soloist and Selmer Signet Soloist?

I would add a couple of things:
The Selmer company itself has kept little record of these instruments and their differences, Paul will hopefully be able to help you a great deal.
All the different species of the Selmer Signet line can be purchase "at that auction site", often recently overhauled and with a trial period for around $200. Just a thought.
