Having now played on a mouthpiece refaced by Ramon for about a year or so, I just wanted to revisit Ramon's amazing, and precise mouthpiece refacing skills from my experience.
Responsive? Check, very reed friendly
Colorful? Just a little touch.
Balance? Check, very even through the range of the instrument, perfect for classical clarinet work. You'll spend much less time worrying about irksome notes as a result of your instrument's design, and more time on phrasing. One less thing to worry about.
Blend? Very much so. His facing allows an even pressure in the sound, creating a homogeneous sound from note to note. Big plus in my book.
He is very consistent in his facings and could easily create a backup mouthpiece to match. I much prefer his American facings but he also does the traditional English facings which are popular for the sound in Europe.
I know there are quite a large number of mouthpiece refacers out there, especially on this forum, but i just wanted to let you know that if you are ever in London, you should definitely check out Ramon Wodkowski. So far he's refaced a set of mouthpieces that i'm REALLY loving! He's studied under James Kanter and his work does capture the ring much like one of my friend's personal Kanters.
If you have any mouthpieces that have tremendous potential, especially lelandais mouthpieces, he will bring out the chocolateness of the mouthpiece.
I'm pretty sure he's going to start his own mouthpiece line in the near future as well. So if you are wondering about his work, stay tuned.
Our inventions are wont to be pretty toys, which distract our attention from serious things. they are but improved means to an unimproved end, an end which was already but too easy to arrive as railroads lead to Boston to New York

I second that. We met a week ago and he's working on a couple of mine that were never quite right. The guy knows his stuff and he's such a lovely chap.

sorry for bringing up an old thread, but i thought it would be better than to start a new thread about the same thing!
I have heard great things about Ramon Wodkowski's work, and if I'm correct he recently worked with Martin Fröst? Does anybody know if/when he is going to start his own mouthpiece line, and when they will be available?
