I'm heading down to New Orleans in March for a vacation, and was wondering if anyone knew whether or not Pete Fountain was still regularly performing? If so, when and where? I'd love to hear him. Thanks.

Pete, according to postings in Google, no longer regularily perform in New Orleans. He does make frequent appearances--one was reported on April 5, 2008--but that's all I could find. He is recovering from a stroke and has some difficulty speaking, but his clarinet playing is still as good as ever.
One of my New Orleans highlights was to hear Pete play in his downtown club. Unfortunately, that was closed years ago.

If Pete isn't playing, look for a great clarinetist in his early/mid 30's named Ryan Burrage. He's one of the few who can play the Albert system. Until about 6 months ago he played at a place called Fritzels (great place for trad. jazz), but I think he has moved elsewhere.

Pete Fountain plays most Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, which is a reasonably short drive from New Orleans. Pete often shares the stage with New Orleans jazz clarinetist Tim Laughlin.
