hello everyone.
long since i wrote or read anything on this bb, but now i got a computer and an internetconnection again. :)

my thaught today is about whistleing.

i am working on focus and have come across this similarities, or so it seems to me, regarding clarinet focus and whistleing different tones.

actually my playing is exaclly like whistleing, except the emboshure ofcourse. and a good focused tone is the same blowingdirection, toungpossition and airtemperature(the airspeed is however different) as when whistle somewhere between g and bflat on the staff.

is this a common way to think or is it totaly wrong?

wish you all a merry christmas
niclas

Well, vocal tract/oral resonances play a role in clarinet playing as well as whistling, and when you bend pitches, your tongue works a lot like it does when whistling. Also, just as with whistling, if you want to play a clarinet in tune, you have to rely on your ears and adjust your embouchure/oral resonance accordingly.

I've never thought of making a connection between clarinet playing and whistling before, but since you mentioned it, there do seem to be some similarities.

no that was not really what i ment.
more like when you whistle you form your tounge and airstream a certain way which, for me, is just like the "formula" i use when playing clarinet to get a focused tone.
the lower whistleingtone the broader or more spread gets my tone and opposit, the higher the more focused. at least within a limit. i have just the range between c below staff and b flat on staff if i not change the "formula" compleatly to get the lower or higher whistle-notes.

ive just been experimenting with this for a little more than a week, so i dont know if its me who is focusing the wrong way or something. new ideas allways seems good when one just made them. :)
