Are you all having the same problem I am getting to this web site? An annoying message sating "Watch the newest videos on YouTube.com" keeps coming up and locking up the screen for ~2 minutes. Have we been hijacked? Anyway it took me EIGHT MINUTES of waiting as I logged in, went to the Bbboard site, requested a New Post, etc. I tried kicking "delete" on that web site info of You .Tube but that just sent me back to the previous internet site.
I love the BBoard but I'll never post again if I have to do this!

The problem is that the Google link downloads a HUGE graphics each time. Not much for those with a highspeed link, annoying for those who dial up.

Eefer guy,
I don't think the site has been hijacked...but it's quite possible that your computer has.
I recently spent about 10 hours of work, over week's time, correcting a really bad case of infection on a friend's computer. Took forever to boot, popups everywhere, sluggish performance, etc. Turned out that more than 100 files were infected with various trojan horse, virus, or spyware programs. It took scans with multiple tools - including booting the machine with Linux to run a virus scanner without interference from the viruses themselves.
Here are my recommendations.
1. Run a good virus scanner. I use Norton but McAfee is fine. AVG Free is excellent as well - and free for noncommercial use.
2. Run periodic scans for spyware. I typically use AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy. SuperAntiSpyware can be useful as well - it found and fixed things that the other two - and AVG free - did not.
IMPORTANT on this: be sure you get the download directly from the vendor. If you just type these into Google, you'll get all sorts of "helpful" links that purport to have the program, and will happily install more spyware for you.
Hope that helps.
Dave

Does your site block youtube (seeing that it's a .gov site)?

This just started this morning. It worked fine yesterday and my Norton anti-virus system read as fine yesterday and today.
This is using the government's line which is VERY fast but it does block Utube address. I check this before work and at lunch but I'll try it at home on the AT&T Internet access.
It seems to also be acting the same way on Safari. Anyway, I won't post or read this BBoard until i can eliminate it. 8 minutes is way too long to read a section or respond.
Hope none of the rest of you have this problem!

Just tried with Internet explorer - just the same. I guess it is part of Google Ads which I think is able to tailor the adverts you see to what it thinks you may be attracted too based on cookies on your computer. There are no secrets!
If you do use FireFox you seem to have the option of right clicking the image and choosing "Block images from i.ytimg.com"
Beware, I have no idea what will happen if you choose this! It is possible you will not be able to view Youtube if you do this, but if you don't use Youtube, it may stop the memory hungry image download

I'm getting it too. It's only noticeable at work, where my connection is considerably slower than at home. Lasts a second or two for me, any time I click on anything. Very irritating.

Attachment: Youtube and BB.doc (64k)
Bit more infor
When I enter the BB from my browser, for about half a second, in the blank white page, there is a blue link in the top left of the page that says
Watch the latest videos on YouTube.com
and in the information bar at the bottom of the browser there is a message
Waiting for www.youtube.com
I have a screen dump showing this clearly.
So - it may be something the administrators of the BB have put onto the web page for advertising
Anyone able to comment?

Yes, I did. I tested on Firefox, IE, and Opera before putting it up (and Google is relatively good at getting things to work cross-platform) and I could add interesting videos up there later rather than those ... but for now I'll take it down. I'll put up a preference later in the user area.

Don't let it put you off FireFox! It is a good browser and has nothing like the security holes IE has (I understand)

(And it's not that Buffet people use IE while Selmer folks use Firefox or the other way round. If you don't like Firefox, uninstall it. If you don't like IE, er, well, just don't use it. )
