I have seen these from time to time; same as used for sports. Do you use these? Are there any negatives about them?

These are probably sweat bands. Do you sweat when you play? I'm not sure there's an advantage to using them unless you like to pretty colors they come in, they do come in pretty colors don't they? No kidding, some people use a support band to give them more support in their wrists or forearm but I don't think you mean those. I have right wrist problems and use a band spandex glove thing that is sold at WalMart. The finger holes are like biking gloves and I modify it a bit leaving only a single hole for the thumb and creating one big hole for the rest of the fingers. It works very well and gives just the right amount of support. I also wear it when I drive or bike.

There's also copper bands that some conductors, other musicians, and golfers use...do you mean those? The science behind them seems kind of fishy to me.

I have used both types of wrist bands. Once I foolishly hurt my wrist by trying to dig post holes in the dry clay of my yard, and the wrist band gave me enough support to keep playing without pain. The sports bands I have used since I practice early in the morning and found out that they would warm and limber up my fingers if I put them on before playing.

Fedderer on clay is like DeFranco on sax, better than he plays tennis! But, the wrist bands are a good idea, as is Ridenour's thumb rest.
