Kia ora
does anyone know the date of birth etc for composer E Brespant (who wrote Grand Fantasy- 8th air Varie for clarinet and piano). I have googled/wikified this composer and found no information.
Any help would be appreciated.

He is not in New Grove, I am afraid.

Donald -

His last name is spelled Brepsant. (Engebert/Eugebert Brepsant)

No dates of birth are listed, but by all accounts he was active as a military musician, composer and professor of clarinet (Academie Royale de Musique, in Paris) in the 19th century.

One of his earlier pieces is dated 1836, a later work dated 1861 and his 9th Fantasie is dated 1878.
