I have been reading this site with great pleasure for a while now and finally I have a question of my own!
I recently started playing again after a two-decade hiatus and have rediscovered enough of my old skill to be seriously thinking about stepping up from my 1965-vintage elementary-school-issue Bundy. An acquaintance has offered for sale a Buffet Crampon E-14 that he bought new in 1987, played for about a year, and then gave up on. He tells me that it's in very good condition, although of course I'll play-test it and have it checked out by a repair technician before buying.
I have tried searching this site and the Web in general for information about this model, but find very little. Does anyone know anything about this clarinet, particularly where it would fit into the range of current Buffet models? I am a reasonably good amateur player, not professional level by any means, and I don't quite have the budget for a new R-13 or similar "professional" model. I have been considering a new E-12 or E-13. Basically, I'm trying to find out whether the E-14 would be a good step-up instrument that I won't "grow out of" in a couple of years. (If that's still possible at the age of 45.)
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Have you ever heard of the woodwinds and the brasswinds. the list price for an r-13 is $3500, but they sell it for about $1850 brand new!! You don't have to be a professional to play on a pro horn. The pro horns aren't pro because they cost alot, they are pro because they are pro-quality. In other words the type of clarinet you play doesn't reflect on your skill level. Hope this helps. The woodwinds and the brasswinds has a web address, www.wwandbw.com or you can get a free catolog by calling 1800-358-5003.

They and many other outlets sell the R-13 for about that price. Check the Resources/Retail section here on Sneezy. The WW&BW is one of many. You need to talk & shop around, even if you use mailorder, and check the archives (both here on the BBoard and on Klarinet) for satisfactory reports.
