QUESTION:A friend of mine is willing to sell me an old albert system for about one-hundred bucks and I just would like to know if it is worth buying it from him. Also what are they worth? And does anybody know were I could find a fingering chart for it.
And finally what is some of the tonal charateristics

The real question is what kind of shape is the clarinet in. Buffet and Selmer Alberts in low pitch have gone for between $150-300 recently and most of them probably needed a repadding. There is a huge supply of student quality Alberts that routinely sell on eBay for $50-100 bucks and again probably need a complete repadding (add another $150). And you need to be careful not to get a high pitch instrument if you ever want to play with a group of modern instruments.
I bought a 1921 CG Conn Albert with 15 keys and 5 rings for $75 on eBay and had it overhauled for another $140. With my regular clarinet mouthpiece, a Blayman with a Luyben ligature, it sounds pretty much like a Boehm.
The Rubank Elementary Clarinet book comes with a fingering chart, on one side is Bohem and on the other is the Albert system.

There is now a fingering chart for Albert System clarinets here on Sneezy at www.wfg.sneezy.org. It is labelled as Oehler Clarinet, as they use the same basic fingering.
The Albert system is supposed to have a narrower bore, giving it a brighter sound than the Boehm.
They are harder to play, because they lack the alternative little finger keys. If you have to play two notes in a row that both use the same little finger, (F-G# or E-F#) you have to slide the finger from one key to another. Many Albert clarinets have little rollers on the keys to make this slide easier.

If you want to hear a very nice Albert System
clarinet. Listen to any of the tracks on the
soundtrack from Wild Man Blues. Woody Allen
plays on a custom made Albert from Paris.
Not sure of the manufacturer.
It definitely sounds different, but nice.
