Sara,
By all means, go for it! I have been playing in a community band for 16 years and it is a wonerful experience. We pick up some high school students all year long, but especially in the summer. It is a great way to keep up the embochure during the months school is out. The biggest benefit is meeting new friends of all ages. Our band consists of people ages 13 to our director who is 81. You can learn a tremendous amount from the old timers who have been around for a while. Have fun!
