Hi,
I'm travelling to the US, San Francisco area, mid this week till end of the month and I'm looking for clarinet resources/tips. I searched this board already for older posts on the topic and already found that there aren't many...
So, any new inputs? Also, I'd like to be a little more specific: I'm looking in particular on tips involving:
- Basses and Contra's: music stores which might have accessories or (no harm in asking..) instruments in stock, new or second hand. CD's. Upcoming events, performances. Anything in fact on the topic.
- This is not the right board, but again no harm in asking: same for Tuba's etc.
- Professional audio equipment like mics etc. (got to profit from that dollar rate ;-) )
- Any tips on nice music in town are also appreciated. I like many styles so whatever you like is fine! Jazz bars, major performances, you name it...
Thanks!

I thought I might be of some help since I live in the SF Bay Area. If you're looking for music stores with bass clarinets or accessories I'd try the following:
Best Music Company in Oakland California.
- Easily accessible from public transportation and our rail system BART. About 20 minutes from downtown SF
A&G Music in Oakland California
- Just a few blocks from Best Music
For CDs I'd browse the classical sections at the Virgin Megastore in SF on Market Street You can get off at the Powell Street stop on BART. I'd also check out Amoeba Music in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of SF and also in Berkeley. If you're looking for live music go to the newpaper San Francisco Chronicle's website (www.sfgate.com) and click on the "Entertainment" link. From there you can search for local performances happening in town. Some venues you might want to look into are:
Yoshis Jazz Club in Oakland and SF
San Francisco Symphony at Davies Hall
San Francisco Ballet at the Opera House
Hope that helps!
