 Hey all, new here

I've been lurking for several weeks, making use of the search function. I've found this site to be a great resource, I've really learned a lot.

I've played the clarinet for some time, since my first year of high school. I'm now a college student studying electrical engineering, but I do play in my university's symphonic band and pep band.

My setup is an older model Leblanc Concerto with a Hite H mouthpiece, the standard metal lig that came with the mouthpiece, and a Legere strength 3 reed. (Occasionally I play a 3 V12 or a 3 Rue Lepic if I have a bit of time to work on the reeds, but time is mighty precious in college and I like that Legere reeds allow me to play well and sound decent without needing to work on reeds.) For outdoor work and pep band I play a Vito V40 with the same mouthpiece/lig/reed setup. Unfortunately, I haven't played my Concerto in several months because all concerts have been outdoors, but concerts coming up or going to be indoors so I expect to use my Concerto fairly regularly again.

Just thought I'd introduce myself and say hi. Hope to learn a lot more here, and maybe share a bit of my meager knowledge with others.

Welcome to the boards.

Good to see you have a plastic clarinet to save your Concerto the indignity of being played outdoors in all manner of weather! I'm amazed at the amount of players in the UK regularly playing their own pro-level wooden clarinets outside (and the weather in the UK isn't exactly stable or predictable) and don't even consider a plastic clarinet for that purpose.

WELCOME Cosine!
When I read that you're from Milwaukee, an ancient television commercial jingle started playing in my head (the awesome power of advertising):
I'm from Milwaukee and I oughta know,
It's Blatz brewed beer wherever you go...

Do they still make Blatz in Milwaukee?

I'm a newbie as well, been lurking, but I'm too inquisitive for that to last.

I'm a mercenary clarinet player/repair technician. I play a lot of other stuff too, but clarinet was my first love. Also am a huge bass clarinet (and lower) fanatic. Got something like 12 years experience, but I stopped counting a while ago because I'm not good with numbers past 8.

Anyway, hello Cosine, hi everyone else, and happy to be here.

I'm familiar with that Blatz jingle... I don't know if they still make it though.

Thanks for the welcomes!

"I'm from Milwaukee and I o'to know
it's draft brewed Blatz beer wherever you go.
Smoother, fresher, less filling that's [it's?] clear,
Blatz is Milwaukee's finest beer."

From Wikipedia (that impeccable source [toast]:

"The "Blatz" beer label currently is produced by the Miller Brewing Company of Milwaukee, under contract for Pabst Brewing Company, managed by CEO, Charles Thomas Blatz who coincidently shares the last name of the previous founder."

But it was Schlitz that made Milwaukee famous!

Best regards,
jnk
