Hi,
Does anyone have any experience with reed machines? Just wondering if anybody uses one? Do you think it is worth the investment? Will they turn out a higher percentage of good reeds compared to hand cut ones? Can these machines turn out better reeds than the big manufacturers? Thanks in advance...

The machines are worth the investment in money and time. With practice, you should find that you are able to produce many more playable reeds than you would get out of a box of commercial reeds. It does take an investment of time and patience to get the feel for the machine and how it cuts(sands) the reed blank.
Also, you'll find that many world-class clarinetist, even with their very busy schedules, take the time out to make their own reeds. Simply, their time is better spent producing customized reeds rather than going through box after box of commercial reeds.

I was impressed with what Ben Armato did with one of my questionable reeds at the ClarinetFest 2000. His reed wizard is a simple thing, but is effective at getting the reed balanced. I had trouble justifying the expense, though. Just curious, what are the experiences others have had with his machine?

I have had an interest in this machine too these 2 years.
The question I had was whether it can be used for reed blanck, namely unfinished reeds, available in bulk at quite cheaper prices at such a shop like International Music Supplier. I knew from Mark's response it is 'yes'.
