Greetings
I just joined your forum and also started playing the clarinet after a long absence. I bought a Boosey & Hawkes (serial # N110080) Edgwood. I think it's from the 50's. The mouthpiece that came with it is a Noblet. I had the instrument totally refurbished with new pads and cork.
I am just having a ball playing again. My question is the Noblet mouthpiece has a tiny chunk missing at the top of the right rail. I need to purchase a new one, but I saw discussion about different sizes of barrels and newer mouthpieces won't fit the older clarinets. I live in the Sierra and there are no music stores to try out different mouthpieces so I thought I might try eBay, but would hate to spent money for something that will not work. I want to get a nice mouthpiece as I am very serious about improving.
Is there any help that all you knowledgeable people might be able to offer?
Thanks in advance for your time.
Cheers
Gwynn

Sorry to be pedantic - Edgwood should be Edgware - the area of London where B&H are based. It may be that the model name has faded on a 1950's instrument.

Considering the age, the instrumet and your location I agree that consultation with a "pro" such as Walt Grabner above would be the best way to go.

If you would like to try a mouthpiece in the $80.00 range, have Walter Grabner send you his new "Intermezzo" Mouthpiece made from a Zinner blank. I just got one and it plays beautifully, free blowing and reed friendly.

Thanks to all of you for your imput...... Edgware is correct, my mistake. I will email Walter Grabner and see what he has to say. Sounds like a good way to go with trying out mouthpieces and getting what I need.
