Dan Higgins, great LA studio player
Author: John J. Moses

Check out Dan Higgins, one of L.A.'s best studio doublers. He's a great flute and alto sax player also, but here he's just jammin' with his son on guitar, while he has fun doing his thing on clarinet.
Enjoy,

Nice! I've also had the privilege of playing some of Dan's small band arrangements and he's an excellent writer as well.

Did anyone catch him in the WindPlayer article a few years ago on LA doublers?

Just when I thought I was getting good, someone like Dan comes along and I'm right back to "square one". Oh well, maybe the next 50 yrs of clarinetting..................

So there's no "head" to that tune? Or to any of them ( jams 1 thru 5), with the exception of 5, which sounds like he's playing an embellished head, at least for a little while? Otherwise, he's strictly jamming on his son's chords?

That was great. Thanks John. Amazing to think that he can play flute and alto sax as well!

Thanks John I liked listening to it.

Steve the 4th one has a melody (sounds a bit similar to a Blues by Wes Montgomery). The 3rd one also has a melody (you can notice he is repeating it). The others also have very clear ideas in the beginning.

They all sound like melodies, but I can't place them, leading me to believe he's creating new melodies to standard changes without thinking about any previous particular song that was composed to them, is what I mean, but he's so good that he can reference those songs, consciously or unconsciously.
