My experience with the selmer 10s II model has not been positive..they are reverse taper bore clarinets which generally play quite sharp. Also they are no longer made by Selmer so I doubt the warranty is valid anymore on this model....that being said you may get some modifications done by your repairman to make this clarinet better. (ie.new barrell etc.)

i do play one as my first instrument : very good sound in the lower registers , but indeed rather bright compared to my other instruments when playing altissimo.
Very good tuning .
Right hand pinky keys are rather high compared to other instruments.
Very good instrument though. A bit to much resistance in the beginning of the tube, you need a rather open mouthpiece and softer reeds. And yes , that makes the altissimo brighter
I did buy mine for 1200,- euros
You can ( very seldom ) find them at around 800 euros
But then , i think 10s would be a better choice

I like my 10S II very much- it is very well made and has been reliable. I have no major tuning problems with my Larry Combs LC3 mouthpiece and Van Doren 3 1/2 reeds. I let the band choose between the 10S II and my old Centered Tone- the 10SII has a nice "ping" and carries very well which the band greatly preferred.
