Perhaps people were leaving with no applause because they simply did not like the performance.

I think LA is the capitol of the "leave early beat the traffic" brigade.
They received justice in '82 when the Dodgers were losing the first game in the World Series by 3 runs in the botton of the ninth...two out, the count 3/2 and Kirk Gibson homers into immortality!
There were about 10,000 fans ot in the parking lots...their moans of regret at missing the historic moment were almost as loud as the celebration inside the park!

People scuttling for the exits have been a perennial problem at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D. C.. Federal government employees tend to be workaholics, guilty about taking an evening off to begin with, and we tend to roll up the sidewalks at 9 p.m. around here. Add to that a poorly-conceived road design in the area around Kennedy Center. Getting out of the parking lots can mean sitting in a traffic jam (although recent construction has improved the entrances and exits). People tend to climb over each other in their eagerness to beat the mob to the cars. Encores? Pfui! Gotta get outta there, turn on the cellphone, get back to work....

Well, Dodger Stadium (like many L.A. venues) is a different case. It can take multiple hours to get out of the lot during a full game. People are willing to trade half an inning for two less hours of gridlock.
Disney Hall, not such a mad dash for departure. There, though, under the most crowded conditions it takes all of 5 minutes to exit the garage.
Hollywood Bowl, also not such a mad dash... because the parking is stacked and it doesn't matter how fast you get to your car.
The greater Los Angeles area should turn all its roads over to the people at Disney. One thing they really do well is move traffic efficiently. They can empty one of the world's largest parking structures (at D-Land) ridiculously quickly. The side effect of all roads leading to Disneyland would be an acceptable compromise.
