Hi folks:
Just upgraded from my plastic Vito to a rebuilt wood Guy Humphrey. My Vito mouthpiece would not fit the barrel of the Guy Humphrey but the plastic Vito barrel did fit the rest of the clarinet so to try the new clarinet I used the plastic barrel and my old mouthpiece. The instrument checked out great. Nice action, and the sound quality made the Vito sound like a kazoo in comparison, even with the plastic barrel. The new clarinet came with a mouthpiece and I assumed it fit. I didn't check and, alas, the mouthpiece included with the new instrument has too small a diameter for the barrel. So I obviously need to go back to the dealer for a properly sized mouthpiece. Or do I need to replace the barrel?
Since I am upgrading is this setback an opportunity in disguise? What should I be looking for in a mouthpiece for this set up?

Get a good technician to size that barrel to the industry standard --so that you can plug any mouthpiece.
I'd recommend that you make the clarinet change and get settled down a bit before entering the confusing, exciting and espensive world of selecting a new mouthpiece.
When it comes to the mouthpiece, be prepared to try out dozens!
