The new chief conductor of the N.Y. Phil is my old boss since eight years: Alan Gilbert. He'll do a great job. I wish him heeps of good luck and the orchestra too.

I don't think those of us who have been paying attention to the NY music scene are surprised at this move. It appears that there has been pressure towards the Philharmonic to go a younger direction instead of making a big-name free agent pool splash, as sports fans may say. Gilbert himself is very familiar with the functions of this orchestra and I am looking forward to seeing how his tenure progresses.
