The LBD Corp. - "Doctor's Products" has been testing a new reed concept with very good results so far. Several popular brands of reeds have been chemically treated (with food grade, non-toxic chemicals) to stabilize and enhance the cellulose matrix and then, in a controlled and predictable fashion, specific biopolymers are added into the reed. The result is a very consistent reed with the "feel" and tonal qualities of natural cane but which maintains optimal playing characteristics longer and enhances the reeds performance in the upper register(according to our test results). Several field trials have been performed with outstanding results and more extensive trials are in progress. Time to the general market? -- depends on trial results, international patent approval, and venture capitalization.
