A Memorial Service was held today for Emily Bernstein.
Here is a note from Dave Shostac, an LA flutist and Emily's friend.
"Emily kind of went unnoticed for quite a while, until John Williams discovered her and suddenly she was famous for "Terminal." She was already fighting cancer when she played that score. She was principal in LA Opera for probably 15 years, and Pasadena Symphony for about ten years. One of our colleagues who spoke today said that when he visited her, she thought all the sudden recognition was just "too much" fuss. About 500 people showed up for the Services, which was great, she was a good gal."
From RMALA NEWS:
"At Emily’s request, please consider making a donation to the newly established Emily Bernstein Fund at The Pasadena Symphony in lieu of
flowers. This fund will ensure the continued excellence of the ensemble that was such an important part of Emily’s artistic life, allowing her devotion to music to live on for years to come."

I did not realize she had passed. I'm sorry to hear that but happy her fight is over for her. Cancer is a terrible monster.
SGM Heffernan of The United States Field Band will be playing "The Terminal", an arrangement for Wind Ensemble, on tour this spring. It would be nice if he knew about her passing and mentioned it in some of his performances. He was practicing it throughout our tour last week.
Thanks for posting the info, John.

Dear Robert;
I play with the Northdale Concert Bank in Toronto, Canada. Do you know how would it be possible for us to get the wind ensemble arrangement of the Terminal.
Thanks;

I mirror Ridgestar's request. My symphony orchestra Tayside Symphony Orchestra has a splinter group TSO Wind and we're giving two recitals for the Scottish National Trust in October. If it's poss to get this arrangement (depending on setup) that would be great.
email me off board if this is possible/feasible. Thanks.
