Just wanted to let y'all know that I like the replacement effer reeds just received in the mail from Legere. I had purchased two #3.5 reeds locally that I found to be a bit too hard and mailed them back to Legere with $3 for shipping. They not only sent me the two replacements (#3.0 & #2.75) which I requested, but also sent me a third #3.5 as a sample with the explaination that my origianal #3.5s were "a bit on the hard side". That #3.5 proved to be more playable that the first, but I still prefer the new #3.0 for use on my custom Bay M-O-M effer mpc. The cane VDs still produce a more vibrant sound, but these Legeres are so close that I don't think the audience is going to mind. And, they are always ready to go.
Bottom Line: I like them and received excellant service from the Legere folks. Now, if the rest of the band could only play in tune...............
Morning Update: Just switched my sop sax Winslow ligature to my Bay Eb clar mpc and--ZOUNDS!!!!--my new Legere reeds now sound just like VD cane (cut down Bb V12s). Big resonace in the low register and crisp staccato response all over the range. It also makes my cane sound richer, which is even better news. My lig was one of John's first models with the detachable band and is no longer available. However, I suspect that--if you could find one--his newer design would work as well. But it has to be for a hard rubber sop sax mpc--my metal sop sax band is too small for the effer Bay.
(No luck, however, with the intonation...............except that the high notes A 6, etc pop right out for everyone to "enjoy")
