Funny thing, with all Tony's fame and clarinet artistry, there are no comments on the BBoard about him?

After emailing my friends and former students of Tony's passing, I received this email back from a great NYC woodwind doubler who knew Tony.

"Hi John,

Thanks for the email.

I used to hang out with Tony at the old Star Cafe, in my
neighborhood, long gone, when I first got to town and had nothing to
do. He was deep in a kind of weird way. Fun to play with. Thanks
for sending.

Andrew Sterman"

I wondered about that too.

Here's Scott (I'm pretty sure - not Buddy DeFranco) with Basie, Wardell Gray, and Helen Humes:

Official website Some good reading there.

Great clarinetist known to knock down walls with volume.

Recorded w/ Bill Evans in the '50's and made some great recordings as a leader.

The clarinettist with the Basie band is Buddy DeFranco, not Tony Scott. Buddy was a member of Count Basie's Octet around 1950. This group made some wonderful recordings, some of their performances also captured on film.

"Funny thing, with all Tony's fame and clarinet artistry, there are no comments on the BBoard about him?"

There are also other clarinetists with a huge influence, creativity, that even made new styles of music and opened ways to many other players, but are rarely ever mentioned on this board.

Perhaps you might name a few, and we can hear about some of these important players...
