Can anyone tell me about this model R-13? Is it comparable to a regular R-13?

I did find out about the Limite by going down to my friend's music store (back in 2004 when I first wrote about this on the board) and he told me they were made for Brook Mays. Apparently some models of instruments are packaged for their largest retailers with a "special" package of things. I play-tested the Limite and the R-13s that he had and selected an R-13. I thought the Limite wasn't quite as well made.
But, they're still probably pretty good and I'm sure would serve someone well.
Since Brook Mays is no more I doubt there'll be new Limites around unless they're called something else and sold through someone else besides the now defunct Brook Mays Music.

Thanks Brenda....would you say they're close to an R-13? Better than most instruments out there? Does it say Limite on the bell or anywhere else?

Buffet "Limite" is not an R13 but rather E13 (or C12) semiprofessional instrument. Many eBay sellers are trying to sell these clarinets as Limited addition R13 but that is false advertisement.

Vytas is right. The Limite is not an R-13. It is not up to the same standard. It's a good instrument, but not as good as an R-13. It says Limite on the upper section of the body where the Buffet logo is located.

The girl in my class who sits next to me plays a Limite. At first, she was describing it to me as an R13 and blaw blaw but when I saw it and how it played...it looked cheap to me. Her thumbrest broke and it's nothing like the thumbrest on other R13s I've seen or Festivals. The barrel is also standard at 65mm instead of 66.5mm. The keywork on it feels a little cheap for me and it's just to free-blowing to me, reminds me of me Selmer 1400. I guess you can say it's a good instrument for it's price. I would it's say comparable to the E13 but maybe a tad better since it is made in the Buffet Factory.

E13, C12 and Limite are made in the same Buffet France factory. Just like E13 the Limite has the "K" before the number and this is an indication that both of these clarinets have identical "French" bore. K-series started on E&S clarinets around 1930 and continue to this day. Also, Buffet K-series clarinets do not fall into pro clarinet category.
