Hi there, I have owned a clarinet for approximately 8 years, im not sure how old it is as it was given to me. As a no longer play the clarinet I was thinking about selling it. I dont really know much about it except it says B&H on the case and has a serial number which is 257854. Does anyone have any idea what this might be worth? Anyones advice would be greatly appreciated, thanx

Assuming it's a B&H clarinet and the serial number is 257854, this clarinet was made in around 1966 CONTRARY to what the serial numbers you'll find online will tell you. The serial number lists for B&H found online are way out and will misleadingly list it as being from the early '70s. Since B&H have fragmented, they scrapped their serial number search engine which is a shame, a that was the only accurate one to be found.
Does it say 'Made In England' just below the socket ring on the bottom joint (above the thumbrest and serial number)?
Has it got silver or nickel plated keys?
Is it wood or plastic?
Has it got a metal bell ring (on the wide end) or a decorative turning instead?
Are there any names on the clarinet, eg. Regent, Edgware, Emperor, Imperial, 926, 10-10, "55", "75", "77", 1-10, 2-20, 8-10, Starlight, Graduate, Student, Rudall Carte, Romilly, Besson, Marlborough...

Can you post some photos of it on here? We can work out what make it is from detailed pictures, and from that work out it's value.
On most B&H clarinets the wider end of the bell didn't have a metal ring, but there was a thick collar with a groove all around it on wooden and ebonite ones, and on plastic ones they had a thin raised ridge running around the circumference.
