 duets

Hello clarinetists- this is Robert Elkjer again (arranger). I'm also
thinking of writing a volume of jazz oriented clarinet duets. My
question is, is there really a need? (Duet books are a dime a dozen).
Below are some clips I'm working on. If you could give them a quick
listen and let me know if this is the kind of material that might appeal
to clarinetists, I would be most grateful. I don't want to invest a lot
of time for something that is not really needed. Thanks! -Robert

Nice work - I especially like Bob's Bop and Talk to the Bird. I would buy these for my students - there is not much written in this style for two clarinets, and I would think they would find them fun and challenging, and a nice addition to the duet repertoire.

You can bet I'd purchase them for myself and all my clarinet friends/students/teachers. The duet repertoire is stll sadly smaller than I'd like. From what I've seen as well, Robert, this book of yours would probably sell.

If you could write in the style of Bob's Bop, I think a book of duets would be quite successful.

Hi Robert,

First of all, Happy New Year from the Plano Clarinet Choir (http://www.geocities.com/planoclarinetchoir/PCChoir.html).

We play lots of great American songbook arrangements like the Gershwin/Marshall set of 4. In addition, we love Dan Higgins Clarinet Collection (http://www.danhiggins.net/). Most of our 80 piece library consists of arrangements by Neihaus and Holcombe. We like them, but we need new stuff, too.

Your clarinet midi duet arrangements sound cool - about grade 5/6 or easy pro. We would love to encourage you to write quartets (3-Bb, Bb bass), mixed quartets (2-Bb, Eb alto, Bb bass), and sextets with Eb soprano. If you decide to split the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd parts and include Eb alto and Bb bass, think what you could do with eight parts!

Please, let us know what you are planning. We purchase arrangements all the time. We especially would like to have swing arrangements of holiday tunes like White Christmas, Silver Bells, Christmas Song (Chestnuts...), Winter Wonderland, Sleigh Ride, I'll Be Home for Christmas, etc.

BTW, I'm lowc because I play a Buffet 1193-2 low C bass clarinet.

We wish you all the best...

Wow Robert!
If we had that Swing Low Sweet Chariot my teacher and I would play that in church for sure! The congregation's jaws would drop! I can see it now. What fun!

And I second lowc's request for quartet arrangements. My quartet, the Niagara Clarinet Ensemble, is always looking for new arrangements. All those Christmas tunes mentioned would be perfect for us as well. Keep us informed!

While there are any number of duet books available for clarinets, these pieces are quite charming and sound like they would be fun to play. I would order them for me and my daughter ro play together.
