My friend just had her 4th clarinet lesson, and she was playing 3rd Bb with someone else for "Pink Panther" and while we were mucking around she started playing in the upper register!!! All the way up to C! It took me months to get up to that, and she seemed like she had been playing for years!

Not surprising at all. It's simply a matter of covering the tones holes and giving enough air support. Almost any 6th grade beginner can do the same with me fingering the clarinet and the student playing with the mpc backwards. Don't feel bad that it took you "months"--that's normal for young clarinetists. Your friend just got lucky with her fingerings. With a little practice, you'll be just as good (and maybe, better) in a short while. Most important, have fun--that's what it is all about!!!

The one 2 leger lines above the staff or the one ABOVE that?? The latter would be quite scary if she can do it consistantly... being a beginner and all
