Need advice on the YCL650. The only review I could find states, "The very best thing about this clarinet is the price. It's a superb instrument for the money, ideally suited for the dedicated amateur or the casual pro - and many experienced player will find it has all they need without having to break into the four-figure bracket. Pricewise it competes directly with the equally good Buffet E13 and the Leblanc Esprit."
As a "dedicated amateur" I'm not in the market for full professional models, and the price ($1,380) of the Yamaha 650 is very attractive. Any help would be grratly appreciated as my current clarinet (Slemer Signet 100) is ok but action slow and intonation is painful in the upper register!

As the cheapest of the Yamaha professional series clarinets, I would compare this to the Buffet R-13. Very similar in many respects, it does everything that many players require of it without any real weaknesses.
I would think it is a very good buy -especially given the Buffet prices for their professional clarinets in the USA at the moment.
