Hey guys,
I have a fantastic RC Prestige E flat that plays great except ONE note. The high D above the staff. The horn seals well so I don't think that is it. The note plays fine with the E flat key pressed but is very stuffy and grunts like crazy without it. Using the e flat key is out of the question because it is just too sharp. Also, the surrounding notes all play fine and respond beautifully. I am a very experienced e flat player and I assure you it is not my lack of technique. I just played a friend's horn and hers was very easy. If anyone can think of a cause for this I would appreciate the insight.

One thing I have noted with the Prestige is the position of the two joints to each other is more critical ad more variable than any other clarinet I've played. If you play games adjusting the position of where the two joints meet you can drastically affect the intonation and sound of the notes (both good and bad). On mine, the best sound and intonation came from putting the two joints together so that the bottom joint was a little further to the left than you would think otherwise in aligning the two joints. This can also negatively affect the forked high Bb sound (but I rarely use that fingering) so you need to check this out too. Ideally you can get both to work well.
However, my high D is a really good note so this might not help your problem. Even the open high D (octave key alone) seems to be in tune. I've never had that happen on any clarinet!
The other thing that might improve it is a different barrel. I rotate between a Fobes, a Henderson cocabolla and two Buffets (Moening and Chadash) and each has a different sound. You might try your friend's barrel on your clarinet to se if that solves the problem.
