Has anyone tried the Sapphire model from Pomarico? Any comments abt it? What kind of reeds do you usually use on it? It seems that the opening is rather similar to the Vandoren B45.How does it compare to the B45? Is projection with this crystal difficult?
There seems to be a bright/mellow option for the mouthpiece. Any remarkable difference when between the bright and mellow? The sapphire is classified as an open mouthpiece. Does an open mouthpiece generally mean that its more resistant to play with and hence require a softer reed? What abt a long facing? How does it affect? Would using an open mouthpiece produce a darker or brighter sound?
Thanks for enlighening me!!! = )

I use a sapphire bright model and I generally use a 3 1/2 V12 reed, and I like to use this mouthpiece because it really projects well. I actually used it the most during marching season because I had a duet w/a mellophone and I really didn't want to get buried. But on the other hand its not the only mouthpiece that I use I also use a 5RV which dosen't project as much but but has a richer tone quality. I choose which mouthpiece to use based on the kind of music I'm playing. I hope this helps.
