Gervase de Peyer 80th Birthday Concert
Author: Gobboboy

Did anyone else here go to the said event?

It was a wonderful evening of music and nostalgia from the worlds most recorded living artist.

(Before I go on I must just say that in no way would I dare to review this concert, but would enjoy a more critical opinion from someone who is in a position to...IYKWIM?)

Music from Bliss, Bartok, Horovitz, Schubert, Schumann, Mendlessohnn & Ponchielli accompanied on piano by Gwenneth Pryor & Carlo Balzaretti. There was Vicenzo Perrone (an ex-student of peyer) joining Gervase in the Mendlessohn concert peices with a gorgeous velvet tone and superb control.

With Gervase in the Schubert Octet & the Bliss Quintet etc, were:
Susan Stanzeleit - Violin
Celia Waterhouse - Violin
Robin Ireland - Viola
Bernard Gregor-Smith - Cello
Leon Bosch - Double Bass
Stephen Stirling - Horn
William Waterhouse - Bassoon

What a line up! it was a real treat.

Every now and then you had to remind yourself that this guy is 80 years old!!
I only hope I can remember what a clarinet is at that age never mind whizz through the Bartok contrasts to a packed Wigmore Hall!!

I thoroughly enjoyed myself and know it was an event I will always remember

G

Yes I did. Apart from one master class several years ago I realised I had never been to a de Peyer recital, so I wanted to get it in before it was too late.

It was memorable and got the pulse racing.

I have few regrets in life, but one of them is that, while Mr. de Peyer was living in the Washington, DC area and playing recitals here, I failed to take advantage of his presence to go hear him play. I have no excuse for that!
