I've seen pictures of S-K Bb mechanism.
But without looking at real instr.,it is very hard to imagine how it works.
Also there are diff. variations of it,but I want to know how the basic design works,specially S-K keys pictured in Brymer's book.
I couldn't figure out how it is possible that register hole is closed when
the thumb ring is pressed when you play Bb using normal fingering.
I know there some who owns S-K mechniam clarinet.
Please someone explain this in detail?

The one pictured in Jack Brymer's book is a simplified version fitted on a Noblet.
The thumb ring holds the Bb vent closed when the thumb ring and the speaker key are held down so only the speaker vent opens - there's a link from the Bb vent to the thumb ring to prevent it opening when the thumb is on the thumb ring.
But when the thumb os OFF the thumb ring and the speaker key is pressed, the speaker vent opens as well as the Bb vent.
A more elaborate design has the Bb vent and the speaker vent opening automatically and independantly from each other when either the thumb is off the thumb ring, or the throat A key is opened, so either one or the other is open at any given time - not both open together.

On the SK mechanism, the register vent always opens when you press the register key.
For the throat Bb, the additional, lower vent also opens. The upper vent doesn't close.
For the clarion register, the thumb ring closes the lower vent.
Stubbins figured out the proper size and location of the two holes so that both of them together make a good Bb, and the register vent alone gives good intonation and response in the clarion register.

Hi again, friends, More S-K discussion, perhaps to enrich our Archives [ a Search is recommended] ?? The US patents involved are many, with 1,926,489 [1932, Leblanc] , 2,508,550 [1950, Stubbins] with 2,832,250, 2,637,276 =RE23,725 and others playing a part. I'll see what is added here after church and may re-join this "fray". I also have read Wm Stubbins account of this interesting contest, of which many of have examples. Don
