Hi Folks, Im wondering if any of you Brits have had any experience with the Boosey and Hawkes Imperial E flat clarinets.
Im looking to buy an eflat - some of the pros Ive worked with have suggested trying out a Boosey if I can find one. Apparently they are used by a lot of players in the UK orchestras, BBC, LPO, etc.
Id appreciate any comments, and also if anyone might have one for sale!!
Thanks

They are OK-Very flexible and not flat in the third register. I suppose the price would be around £700 for a good used one. Our Orchestra here in Belfast has one in the store somewhere-must try and dig it out and see how it is. Contact me offline via the Ulster Orchestra web site if you wish.

I played an Imperial for many years in a BBC orchestra. It was, rather unusually, made of ebonite.
One thing to beware of is that suitable mouthpieces are very hard to find; you can't just use a stock vandoren or whatever. I also wouldn't recommend it if you have large hands as the spacing is not as good as some. I had to file down some keys to be able to play it at all. Eventually that's what persuaded me to change to Selmer Recital.
