Synthetic vs. Natural

I'm looking for advice on what academic journals would have articles concerning acoustic and performance differences between synthetic and natural reeds as well as between plastic and grenadilla instruments. Thanks.

My first suggestion would be to join the International Clarinet Association [ICA], their quarterly publication "The Clarinet" contains many articles of interest by well-known and very competent cl'ists. Second, ask specific questions on our BBoard to obtain up-to-date commentary and advice on your points of interest, and search the BB archives, where a wealth of info is waiting for your retrieval. As far as I know, this BBS has some anecdotal information comparing artificial versus natural reeds. When it comes to plastic versus wood for the base of the clarinet, there are a ton of comments on this subject, too. I believe that there have been some scientific experiments on this subject. Search the other parts of this BBS for places to start your research on this particular item.
