I read in your previous post about projection and it was very very helpful! Just one question, about Keith Stein's exercise in listening for overtones, should the room be one that echoes? Or not?

I am attempting to NOT anticipate Ken's response, [steal his Thunder?, NO]. I'll happily "read and understand" his comments when presented. I did look into Stein's booklet [again], his table of contents has a number of interesting titles. Also David Pino, in his "Good Book", Jack Brymer also MUST discuss this aspect of playing, Colin Lawson has a page [157] or so as well. A good subject started by an oboist ?. Don

Howard -
The room doesn't matter. The overtones are part of your clarinet tone, and not room resonances. You face into the corner to reflect your sound back to you, making everything, including the overtones, sound louder.
Keith Stein showed me the exercise in his Interlochen teaching studio, a small (about 12' x 12') stone building with a peaked roof.
Once you learn how fade out the low note and keep the high overtones going, you can do it anywhere.
However, a little room resonance does make it easier to hear.
