Have any of the UK based music college students (or parents/friends/anyone!) on this board been succesful in purchasing an instrument minus VAT during their studies?
In the maket for some expensive purchases, and remember discussing ths idea with someone whilst at my last college. I know the scheme helps school children, but does anyone know if it applies to University students?
Anyone with any pearls of wisdom to help?

You can apply for other grants if studying full time at University - the Grants Register should have a list of all the music related ones, Musicians Benevolent and Princes Trust being a couple.

You need to approach your school/college with details of where you want to buy your instrument from, ie, a page from the internet, etc. They then need to order the instrument for you and they must hand over the instrument in a class room. Most schools/college will do this but, of course, they want to be sure that you will pay them for the instrument. In my experience, it is best to pay up front, then there is no worry on their part. If you are at music college, I am sure that they will have a procedure in place for this scheme. Go and ask at the office.
Hope this helps.
