Do you Legere users perform with these reeds, or do you use them more for practicing.

I did one orchestra performance with a Legere and it was ok. I did not have any solo work to speak of in that particular concert, however. IMHO, my best cane reeds are better than the Legeres, but the Legeres are better than a lot of the average cane reeds. Being a high school band director as well as a player and junior college teacher, I like being able to leave my Legere reeed on my instrument and just grab my clarinet off the stand and play with my high school students without having to take the reed off, wet it, then put it back on. I want to explore the Legeres a little more. I messed up my best one when I tried to clip another reed and did not realize I had the good one on the clipper until I had already clipped (duh!) I will probably try some more Legeres.

If you search here you'll find info about my son using a Legere in a competition because his cane reeds didn't work the day of the tape audition (and he couldn't reschedule his accompanist/recording tech). He didn't like the legere as well as his best canes - but he did win a national orchestral woodwind competition and a couple of thousand bucks with it ...

I hope you'll agree, playing is often times what the player thinks about what he is using.. and not totally how it sounds. I use one to test instruments but have never used it in performance. . I guess I think too much… smiles
