Finally found a teacher in town. He's a student teacher and needed victims to train teaching. Downside is that I have to play with his teachers sitting around every so often. But that is compensated by a really good tariff.
Looks as if the countless hints in this bboard are compatible with the local teaching/playing methods, thanks a million to all of you.
Now it seems as if there was no way around learning to play by score. In my 25y hiatus I appear to have forgotten a whole lot of stuff. Oh well.

For sure you've got lots of company. It took me over 19 years to come back to playing. Keep plugging away at your practicing and you'll learn so much. Congratulations!
If the other teachers hanging around make you nervous, imagine how it makes your young teacher feel! But that just increases the chances of a higher level of teaching. The hope is that you'll continue to enjoy this person's teaching for awhile yet. And it's true, this BB is complimentary to your lessons by filling in the gaps.

Hehe, Brenda, we both know we're sitting in the same boat these days (handling different oars, though, to stick with the metaphor). Of course, I don't want to embarrass him nor do I want to appear as a complete dork.
It certainly feels better than 25 years ago with that &%รง*! recorder teacher.
