Right, Mark, The Groves Dictionary of Music [etc], a number of volumes, and in most libraries, is likely the best [first] choice. Many books with clarinet in the title, Brymer, Rendall, Pino etc, and books by Sachs, Baines, Marcuse etc, will give you prob. more than you want re: Denner's single-reed start of our "search for musical perfection".
