Is there anyway to modify a low pitch clarinet to make it usable in modern orchestras? I just tried a very nice C clarinet, but when I tried it with my tuner is was pitched closer to C-flat (A440-442)!

Are you sure that isn't a HP Bb clarinet? Low Pitch IS usable in modern orchestras. A High Pitch Bb clarinet would actually play in B, so that might be what you have.
A C clarinet is a lot smaller than a Bb, mine measures 20 3/8" in length,
not including the mouthpiece.

For reference, my high pitch B flat measures 57cm (22 1/2") without MP.

My experience with L P [marked] and, in general old [pre-1940 p.e.] cls has been that they might be a bit flat [435?] to 440-442, thus needing an only-slightly-shorter barrel, so as to keep all notes in "reasonable" tune with themselves [check octaves and 12ths for intonations]. Don
