For the "Now I've Seen Everything Department," a touring company of Sweeny Todd does without an orchestra by having the cast play the music.

I checked the website of one of the actors (http://www.donnalynnechamplin.com). Under her biography, it said that she participated in international competitions in voice, piano and flute. It also said that she studied voice and piano at Eastman. In Sweeney Todd, she will be playing piano, accordion, and flute; so maybe she and the other cast members are indeed qualified.

I don't know if it's a money-saving measure or a gimmick, but I'd be interested in hearing whether it results in a credible production.
